Casing Elevator/Spiders are tools used for casing raising and lowering in oil and gas drilling operations. The design and manufacture of Sino Mechanical Casing Elevator/Spider Units follow API Spec 8C technical specifications to ensure safety and efficiency.

Operation of Sino Mechanical Casing Elevator/Spider Units

The operation of this Casing Elevator/Spider Unit is controlled by a control handle, and the control valve is located on the main body.

1. Push the control handle up to lift the slips;

2. Pull the control handle down to lower the slips. If the pneumatic system fails, the slips can be manually operated as follows:

a. Insert a 5-foot-long crowbar into the manual socket;

b. Press the crowbar and push the control handle to the upper position, which will cause the upper limit block under the balance beam to extend and support the balance beam to ensure that the slips stay in the upper position;

c. Pull down the control handle and the slips will fall.

 Key points for operation of Sino Mechanical casing elevators/spiders

1.Casing Elevator/Spider Units can only be operated after the pipe column stops steadily. Otherwise it will cause jamming.

2. Anti-clamps must be used during the unbuckling process on the casing, and the Casing Elevator/Spider Units cannot withstand reverse torque, otherwise it will cause equipment damage.

3. During use, the Spider can be fixed with a staggered chain to make the center of the Spider consistent with the center of the wellhead.

4. During the lowering of the casing, when the casing coupling passes through the inside of the Casing Elevator/Spider Units, the lowering speed should be slow to prevent the coupling from colliding with the slips body and causing equipment damage.

5. Add flowing lubricating oil (engine oil) once for every 50 casings; if the main body has a slips sticking phenomenon, immediately add flowing lubricating oil between the slips and the main body (the flowing lubricating oil can take away impurities at the contact point between the slips and the main body).

Lubrication of Sino Mechanical casing elevator/spider

Add lubricating oil once for every 50 casings. If you want to prevent the slips from sticking to the main body, add lubricating oil more times. Adding lubricating oil must be done when there is no casing load and the slips are in the lower seat position.

Maintenance of Sino Mechanical casing elevators/spiders

1. Remove accumulated water.

2. Clean the filter element with kerosene or fuel diesel every three months or when necessary.

3. Clean the filter with clean warm water or pure kerosene. The plastic casing of the filter is easily damaged when it comes into contact with certain solvents, strong alkaline substances or compressed oil containing aromatics (non-combustible oil). The vapor of the above substances can also cause damage.

4. Lubricate as required.

5. Check whether the guide ring and inserts are worn and need to be replaced.

6. Avoid unnecessary impact loads on slips.

7. Do not paint on the mating surface and grease fittings.

8. Avoid contamination of gas pipelines.

9. Do not hinder the flow of compressed air.

10. Avoid lack or excess of lubricating oil in the oil mist.

11. It is not allowed to use equipment that does not work properly.

Troubleshooting of Sino Mechanical casing elevators/spiders

1.Slips cannot be raised or lowered or are raised or lowered slowly.

a. Check whether the pressure of the pressure reducing valve is 70-80 psig.

b. Check whether the gas pipeline is compressed or twisted and leaks, causing pressure reduction.

c. Check the liquid level of the atomizer. To ensure the normal drive of the cylinder, the lubrication should be sufficient.

d. Check whether the control valve is flexible.

e. Check whether the dust ring on the cylinder is clean. The dust ring can ensure the cleanliness of the piston rod. If it is worn, it will affect the operation of the cylinder.

2.Pipe Slips

a. Check the size of the slips (1 or 2 incorrect slips are mixed with 2 or 3 correct slips).

b. Check for incorrect, worn or resharpened inserts.

c. Check the wear of the slips. The wear of the back cone of the slips will reduce the position of the slip seat into the main body and may hit the lower guide ring, and prevent the inserts from biting the pipe column.

3. Damaged Pipe

a. Check if there are any slips with incorrect size in the four slips group.

b. Check if the inserts are damaged or worn.

Transportation and Storage of Sino Mechanical casing elevators/spiders

1.Casing Elevator/spider is strictly prohibited from collision and rain during transportation.

2.Casing Elevator/spider should be stored in a ventilated and dry place, and should not be exposed to the sun or rain. It is strictly prohibited to contact with corrosive substances such as acids, alkalis and salts.
