Sino MechanicalCasing Elevator/Spider Units

In drilling engineering, Casing Elevator is a tool used to lift pipes such as drill pipes, tubing and casing. It is suspended in the lifting rings on both sides of the big hook of the lifting system to facilitate the lifting or lowering of drilling tools, tubing and casing into the wellbore. Casing Elevator has different specifications for the drill string to be lifted.

350/500 ton Casing Elevator/Spider Units are pneumatically operated tools for 4.1/2" to 24.1/2" casing. The 350 ton Casing Elevator/Spider Units can withstand loads of 3150 kN (700,000 lbs) and the 500 ton Casing Elevator/Spider Units can withstand loads of 4500 kN (1,000,000 lbs). The 350/500 ton Casing Elevator/Spider Units are mainly composed of a safety locking mechanism and 4 independent slips and standard accessories.

The use of Sino Mechanical Casing Elevator/Spider Units

The 350/500 ton Casing Elevator/Spider Units can be assembled into a Casing Elevator or Spider. When used as a Casing Elevator, it is equipped with a conical guide and a lower guide ring. When used as a Spider, it is equipped with an upper guide plate that helps the Spider and the main bushing to be aligned. When used as a Casing When used as an Elevator, it can be hung on the traveling block and the big hook of the derrick using the API standard lifting ring of 350/500 tons. When used as a Spider, it can be placed directly on the pin-driven main bushing (27.1/2 MSPC, 37.1/2 and 49.1/2MPCH), the four-way driven main bushing (27.1/2 MSS), and when a connecting plate of our company is installed, it can be placed on other main bushings.

Operation of Sino Mechanical Casing Elevator/Spider Units

Sino Mechanical Casing Elevator/Spider Units operate the lifting and lowering of slips through a two-position control handle. The slips are suspended on two interlocking balance beams, which are driven by four cylinders. The cylinders work simultaneously without eccentricity and self-locking, so that the slips move in unison when they are lifted and lowered. It is also equipped with a manual operating device that can be used in case of a temporary drop in air pressure.

The pneumatic system shares a bed reduction valve-air filter, which can filter the compressed air and reduce the air to meet the Casing Elevator/Spider Units system needs. Filtered and regulated compressed air is also sent to the oil mister (already installed on the Casing Elevator/Spider Units) to add a small amount of oil mist to lubricate the four cylinders. After the air comes out of the oil mister, it enters the control valve to control the balance beam. The control handle is directly operated, and the cylinder drives the balance beam to push the slips up and down.

The pneumatic lifting and locking mechanism can make the slips responsive. When used at sea or on land, drillers can operate this Casing Elevator/Spider Units to quickly raise and lower and lock slips.

Connecting Air Lines for the Sino Mechanical 350 and 500 Ton Casing Elevator/Spider Units

1. Fix the regulator-filter on the derrick and install the appropriate length of air pipeline

2. Connect a 50-foot long 12-inch diameter pipeline between the Casing Elevator and the second-level platform. One end will be fixed 45 feet above the drilling platform and the other end will be fixed near the rat hole at the bottom of the derrick. Both ends of the pipeline are quick-change connectors.

3. Connect a 25-foot long 1/2-inch diameter pipeline between the Spider and the regulator-filter.

Connect the pipeline on the derrick to the regulator-filter and adjust the pressure relief valve to 70 to 90 pounds per inch.

4. If the regulator-filter cannot be fixed to the derrick for a long time. Use two 50-foot air pipelines, one tied near the casing pipe worker 45 feet above the rig floor. The second hose is connected to the first one and the Casing Elevator respectively.

Installation and Removal of Sino Mechanical Casing Elevator/Spider Units

Removing and Replacing Slip Segments

a. Use power to lift the slips assembly to the upper position

b. Hook the lifting ring of the slips with a lifting hook and remove the stop pin on the lower connecting pin.

c. Remove the lower connecting pin.

d. Remove one slip.

e. Repeat steps b to c to remove other slips.

Installing Replacement Slip Segment

a. Add enough butter to the back cone of the slips to be installed and the inner cone of the main body that matches it.

b. Lift the slips to be installed with a hook and align the pin holes of the slips and the pin holes of the connecting rod.

c. Install the lower connecting pin and put the stop pin on it.

d.d. Repeat steps a to c to install other slips.

Removing and Installing Guides

a. Pull out the hinge pin.

b. Open the main body to remove the guide ring.

c..Remove bolt and keeper from each side of guide ring.

d. Lift the Spider and raise it 4 inches.

e. Remove the guide ring from the main body groove.

Installing Guides

a. Put the guide ring into the groove and fix it with hexagonal bolts and positioning blocks.

b. Lift and close the Casing Elevator/Spider Units body and insert the hinge pin.

c. Check whether the slips are working properly.
