Overview of Ram BOP
A ram BOP is a blowout preventer that is samiliar in operation to a gate valve. Ram BOPS use a pair of steel plungers that oppose each other (rams). The rams can extend towards the wellbore's center to restrict the flow of fluids or retract open to permit the flow.
Ram BOP can be used to quickly seal the top of the well in the event of a well control event (kick). A ram BOP consist of two halves of a cover, and the covers are constructed of steel for strength. Pipe Rams are installed into ram BOP, and pipes rams can effectively seal a limited range of pipe diameters. There are variable-bore rams available also, and the variable-bore rams are designed to seal a wider range of pipe diameters. Shear Rams Blocks are used to share drill pipes. The various ram blocks can be changed in the ram BOP, and this will enable the well drilling operation team to optimize BOP configuration for the particular hole section or operation in drilling progress.
The ram blowout preventer uses hydraulic pressure to push the well sealing components—two rams with rubber cores—from the left and right sides to the center of the wellbore to seal the wellhead, so it is called the ram blowout preventer. The working process of the ram blowout preventer is to use the hydraulic pressure to push the piston to drive the ram to close or open, so as to close or open the wellhead to achieve the purpose of sealing and opening the well.
The ram blowout preventer is used to prevent well kicks and blowouts that may be caused by formation high-pressure gas entraining crude oil and water during well completion operations, well workover operations, tripping and lowering tubing operations, oil production, oil testing, and drilling in the oil field. It is installed at the wellhead Safety combined sealing device. It is a wellhead safety device for uphole operations and when downhole tools are replaced. When an abnormal situation occurs downhole, turn the lead screw to push the half-sealed ram to close the annular space of the sealed oil casing and fully seal it at the wellhead, so as to achieve the purpose of safe production and protection of the surrounding environment. Ram blowout preventer can be used alone or in combination with double ram blowout preventer, and can also be used in conjunction with annular blowout preventer.
Ram blowout preventer is mainly composed of shell, side door, oil cylinder, cylinder head, piston, piston rod, locking shaft, seals, ram and so on.
The ram of the ram BOP can be divided into four types: full sealing, semi sealing, variable diameter and shearing ram, which are used to realize well sealing under different conditions. The semi sealing ram can seal the corresponding drill pipe and tubing When there is no pipe in the well, the fully sealed ram can completely seal the wellhead, and the shear ram can cut off the drilling tool under special circumstances. In special cases, the shear ram can cut off the drilling tool. In addition, the flange outlet on the side of the casing can be used for drilling fluid circulation and throttling and killing operations.

Ram BOP mainly consists of BOP body, hydraulic open and close ports, bonnet, rams, bonnet seals, ram guide pins, connecting rod seals.

Locking Screw Housing consists of operating piston, locking screw, bonnet bolt, bonnet, ram change piston, ram change cylinder, operating cylinder, intermediate flange, plastic packing fitting, lifting eye.
1. The Ram BOP mainly consist of the main body, the side door assembly and the gate assembly to form a closed inner cavity.
2. The side door assembly is composed of locking screw, locking shaft, "O" type rubber sealing ring, thrust ball bearing and gland.
3. The gate assembly is composed of front seal, top seal, gate body and hexagon socket bolts.

1. According to the number of rams, it can be divided into single ram BOP, double ram BOP, triple ram BOP.

Applications of Ram BOP
1. When there are drilling tools in the well, the semi-sealed ram can close the annular space between the drill pipe, casing and tubing, and is equipped with rubber core (specific specifications are equipped according to customer requirements)
2. When there is no drilling tool in the well, the wellhead can be fully sealed with the fully sealed ram;
