Overview of Sucker Rods

The sucker rod is a slender rod of the pumping well, it is connected to the polished rod on the top, and the pump is connected to the bottom to transmit power. The length of a single sucker rod is 7.62 or 8 meters, 9.14m, and the material is generally low-carbon alloy steel after quenching and tempering treatment. The main body of the sucker rod is a solid rod with a circular cross-section, with thickened forging heads at both ends, and a connecting thread and a square cross-section for a wrench on the forging head. The nominal diameter of the sucker rod is 16 mm (5/8 inch), 19 mm (3/4 inch), 22 mm (7/8 inch) and 25 mm (1 inch). The length of the sucker rod, in addition to the most common 8-meter-long sucker rod, there are five lengths of 1.0 m, 1.5 m, 2.5 m, 3.0 m, and 4.0 m that are specially processed for combination. There are two kinds of domestic sucker rods, one is carbon steel sucker rod, the other is alloy steel sucker rod, carbon steel sucker rod is generally made of No. 40 high-quality carbon steel, alloy steel sucker rod is generally Made of 20 gauge chrome molybdenum steel or 15 gauge nickel molybdenum steel.

Features of Sucker Rods

1. The sucker rod transmits torque through the fork interface of the rod body, and the connecting thread only bears tension, so it has a good anti-tripping effect.

2. The sucker rod is made of 35CrMo high-quality alloy steel base material, and the two ends of the rod body are formed by upsetting and forging, so there are no welding areas and roughness.

3. Adopting the whole rod quenching and tempering and straightening new technology, the strength of each part is uniform and the straightness is good.

4. Sucker rods are used in multiple artificial lift applications, including rod lift and progressing cavity pumps.
