Overview of IBOP

The IBOP is a special tool for grabbing the drilling tool at the wellhead when a kick (overflow) occurs during drilling. It has the advantages of high pressure bearing, reliable sealing, convenient operation, and quick switch. The IBOP is in the normally open standby state.

The Inside BOP (IBOP), which is also called gray valve, is a back-pressure type valve (or float valve) that allows stripping operation using drilling kelly / top drive or running drill pipe into the hole without mud flow upward through the valve. It can be stabbed and made up on the drill pipe only at very low flow rates. The best method is to stab and close the Full-Opening Safety Valve first, then install the Inside BOP if the decision is made to go back into the hole.

The IBOP is a check valve with a large pressure drop. The tapered plug of the valve reduces the cutting effect of the mud on the valve seat and ensures a correct closing state. Internal blowout preventers are attached to the drill string to protect swivels, hoses and risers. IBOP can also be used before the high pressure pump to prevent high pressure blowout. A special release tool keeps the valve normally open, allowing reverse flow to pass. The release tool is pre-installed in the valve and prepared as a component on the drilling platform. When the blowout signal is detected when the drill pipe is pulled out from the well, the IBOP can be quickly installed on the drill string.
