Overview of Weight Indicators
The Weight Indicator is a device used in drilling engineering to display the change of the drilling pressure and its relationship with the weight of the drilling tool. The driller masters the working parameters of the drilling rig and workover rig during drilling or workover operations and judges the working status of the drilling tool.
The Weight Indicator consists of pressure sensors and corresponding instruments. The pressure sensor is installed on the dead end of the wire rope of the pulley system (called a dead rope). There are two types of hydraulic and electric. It can reflect the pulling force on the dead rope through the instrument, and this pulling force is proportional to the hanging load on the hook. Therefore, with the help of the weight Indicators, it is possible to understand the working conditions of the drilling tool in the well and perform correct operation. Weight Indicator can be divided into two categories, hydraulic and electronic, according to their working principles. What is commonly used now is the hydraulic weight gauge.

The pressure sensor is installed on the dead end of the steel wire rope of the pulley system (called a dead rope). The modern Weight Indicators refers to the design concept of combining the two instruments of the Weight Indicators and the sensitivity meter. There are respectively one finger weight and one sensitivity spring tube in the watch. The free end of the spring tube is displaced under the action of the liquid pressure, and the gear shaft is rotated through the connecting rod of the amplifying mechanism and the bevel gear, so that the pointer is deflected, thereby indicating the hanging weight of the hook and the drilling pressure.
Weight Indicators of the same model and specification have different measuring ranges depending on the number of cables worn by the traveling block, so they should have different scales.
Features of Weight Indicators
The pressure chamber is connected with the Weight Indicators and the recorder through the oil pipeline, and the hydraulic signal can be sent to the recorder to drive the action of the recorder pen, and at the same time, the hydraulic signal is transmitted to the Weight Indicators.
Weight gauges of the same model and specification have different measuring ranges depending on the number of cables worn by the traveling block, so they should have different scales. Take the weight watch with 10 strands of rope as an example: the weight dial is yellow on a black background, and its circle is engraved with a scale of 0-2400 evenly divided, so each grid represents 20 kN, and the central axis is equipped with a yellow needle. The tube drives the rotation with a maximum deflection angle of 375°. The outer dial with a ring is a sensitive dial, and an adjusting pinion is installed on the edge, and the sensitive dial can be moved through the handle. The sensitive dial can be rotated arbitrarily within the range of 360°. The sensitive dial is white on a black background, engraved with o-600 evenly divided scales, and each division is 10 kN. A red needle is installed on the central shaft for indication, driven by a spring tube to rotate, and the maximum deflection angle is 4 times of the rotation angle of the pointer of the weight gauge. The dials of the Weight Indicators and the sensitive meter should be selected according to the number of ropes of the drilling rig. There are also dials with 8-strand ropes and 12-strand ropes, which can be selected according to needs.

When drilling, as the drill bit is pressed into the formation, the load of the hook decreases, and the scale value of the outer circle correctly represents the weight on bit W drill value.
